Norway is sending Finland's song from last year. This is up against a ballad of power from North Macedonia. The bookmakers think Norway is the better song but that may just be because they are familiar with the tune that finished second last in the final last year.

 
Spirit in the Sky is like a dark Nocturne. It uses images like Game of Thrones and sounds that could be from Genghis Khan's Moscow and others that sound inspired by indigenous people. I get why it would be liked but it would be a fairytale if they won. La det swinge though. 

In the end I think the better song is the one least popular. it is more powerful. I am going North Macedonia.

Eye Cue… I see what you did there. I was amused for seconds. The name of the group was more entertaining than the song or the clip. Seriously Marija, give it up. Only Beyonce can do bodysuits like that. 

Last year FYR Macedonia sent one of the best songs that failed to qualify for the final. This year they are sending a song that is best described as… eclectic… Parts of it are good and just as you get into those parts, it changes. It keeps the listener on their toes at least.

This doesn’t pretend to be anything other than a shag song, but sex sells so they say. Can this be sold to Europe? Can a bunch of local awards and festival wind translate to Eurovision success? History says no. Aw well, it is nice of them to show up.

FYR Macedonia regularly fails to qualify for the final. Even when they do they don’t do well. Their best finish was in 2006 with another shag song that was be best described as… not great

At the age of 17, Jana appeared on Macedonian Idol and she finished 5th. After she performed Blondie's "Call Me" she was evicted, which was understandable after hearing her rendition. I hope over the last 6 years Jana has learned how to sing.

Dance Alone is not as challenging as anything by Blondie. Generally Swedish music factory stuff is reasonably simple. The problem is that the song sounds like about everything else. It sounds like an ad for a Toyota Corolla. Maybe they can incorporate that into the staging. There has been an Ice rink, pole dancers and giant double piano on the Eurovision stage, why not a small car...

I can't help think that when a bunch of Swedish Music factory writers provide a song to a third rate Eurovision country it is because no one else wants it. This song ends on a rather depressing note, which isn't what one wants from a dance song. I couldn't see Kylie or Gaga performing it. I guess that makes it perfect for Macedonia.

Macedonia doesn't appear to be a well of talent.and they like depressing songs like this from 1998

Kaliopi – Dona

I would love to have the courage to wear vinyl pants when I am almost 50, and more power to this 49 year old for continuing to try to rock out. I think there will be a dark horse ballad that will take out this year’s event. Go the power ballad!

If there is an 80’s tinge to this song that because that’s when Kaliopi started her career. She is an institution in Macedonia. She has not been an Idol contestant, but she has been a judge on that show. This is not her first time to Eurovision either. After almost getting to Eurovision in 1996, Kaliopi finished 13th in 2012 which was the best result Macedonia since 2006. She was also in the mix for selection in 2005 and 2006 and I think Eurovision needs more Kaliopi.

Despite her result in 2012, her popularity in neighbouring countries and the fact this song is pretty good, the bookies do not rate Kaliopi and Macedonia at all. This song is aimed at the older Eurovision viewers and they still vote, as proven in 2000. Why is this not top 20? Ah, that’s right, #NotASongContest…

It may not be a song contest, but it may be a dress contest. I love Xena Warrior Dress from 2002

There is always one Eurovision semi that is far better than the other. This is not the better semi.

so in short, I doubt anything from this semi will win or even come close. either the song is dire or the performance it not good enough to get it votes.

Auto non-qualifiers: either greece or poland wont qualify or both,

Macedonia has chased the Eurovision crown for close to two decades, but over the last 6 years they have only qualified for the final once with a rock chick. This year they have tried to get something for the 'kids' and something popular. So they are sending this cardboard cut out popstar

I sat there after I head this song trying to work out what it sounded like. It bugged me for ages, then it hit me, it sounded like 'Feel This Moment' by Pitbull and Christina Agruilera. It similarities go to the fact that neither song is particularly original in sound or styling.

This song has a target audience. Yes this song is a wanna be gay anthem. It fails at being a gay anthem though because no self respecting gay man would be seen with a cheap copy, which really defines this song and Tijana, who is a little like a poor man's Pink.

It is always smart to pick an artist who is popular in other countries, but you should check first if that country is already competing in Eurovision. Tijana is popular in Serbia who, with Croatia, have not entered this years contest. This will make it an uphill battle for any former Yugoslav country and when it comes to pushing shit uphill, well that's this song. No winner here.

Last year I compared Finland's entry to Pink, I kind of feel bad making the comparison, Pink didn't deserve it. Finland also likes singing about the Sky like they did in 1979. At least the blonde hair on that enrty was natural, unlike Macedonia...

What do you do with a dancing with the stars set when the stars have gone? record Eurovision clips there.

You know what this song needs, a reveal. A mid-song costume change, a coming out of the darkness into the light. It wants to be a dancefloor hit, but something is missing. Maybe my subby isn't working (*kicks subby*) because it is like the beat is missing.

They say it is not over until the fat lady sings, so this song is over about 1 minute in. that’s good. We need another toilet break

If they could make this performance entertaining it would Make My Day

Up the volume of the instruments in the middle section and this could be a reasonable song. It isn't that I cant stand her voice, but it is true, I would prefer her on mute, but I want more omph from that middle section.

If wikipedia counts for anything, which I doubt, she is someone worth watching. she has possible the longest Bio for an eastern European entrant that I can recall ever seeing. 

I think this will qualify but I hope it doesn't go too far, only because she is too much of a self-important diva to compete for her place in Eurovision. She did it once, won, her song went to the 1996 pre-eurovision eurovision and didnt qualify for the main even so she has not competed in the national final since or Eurovision for that matter. She was installed as the representative for Macedonia by internal selection. Thats not amusing. 

Anyways, thats enough about Morticia Adams... 

Makes me wonder if the 'out of the darkness into the light' theme will be used like Croatia in 1998. I love reviewing the Macedonian song just so I can inflict their song from 2000 on people again

OK so the English version appears to be what they will be singing at Eurovision, but the clip is the Macedonian version. This was the best clip I could find for two reasons. 1) the 1980's information video music before the song starts. 2) it is the one where they least look like they are lip syncing. one clip I found the same image with both English and Macedonian vocals... and I still couldn't tell you which was the actual vocals she was singing.

ooo I just thought, this clips is fantastic for another reason... it shows just how 'liberal' they will be with the key when they have to preform it live at Eurovision. ouch. this song hurts. They are really suck-tastic without backing tapes.  Is it Just me or does it sound a little like 'turn me loose'.... maybe... I guess it all depends on what keys she is actually meant to be singing in.

now for a bit of Retro... and I cant find any Macedonians who represented Yugoslavia, there may have been one, but I cant find it so I doubt it, so instead one from after the FYR Macedonia started entering Eurovision as an independent state. To Karolina, a repeat offender in Eurovision who was entered for macedonia in 2002 and 2007 and would have also entered in 1995 is fyr Macedonia didn't withdraw from the contest. anyway this is ' Od Nas Zavisi' from 2002... OMG the cliche. yes there was a mid song costume change... yay for Karolina
