So this is it, the event we have all been waiting for, the Eurovision final.

I am happy that SBS has decided to broadcast all the semis and the final live this year, it is about bloody time, but I like many am over Julia Zimero and Sam Pang. I accept that it was proably SBS's perseverance with them and them going constantly to Europe for the event that got Australia a wild card, however can they just SHUT UP! The postcards are there for the commentators to talk over, not the hosts. Their parents obviously did not tell them that it is rude to talk when someone else is talking. They try so hard to come up with a funny line between them that they don't stop talking. they get to see each performer at least three times prior to the event. Why don't they watch the rehearsals and write their funny lines then... like a good comedian/comedienne would.

Gripes aside, here is the shit that Europe (and Australia) has dished up this year...

Slovenia - This has dropped with the bookies from 8th last week to 11th today. Popular early, Marjetka dress and the performance don't seem to connect. What is with the backing dancer? She seems to be there out of obligation rather than having a real purpose.

France - Last week France was so far back in the favouites that it could only go up after the semis, and it has. Lessening its chances is that it is in the spot of death (2nd is regarded as the worst spot to perform in). This was not going to win anyway. It is better suited to the last scenes of a war movie than to Eurovision.

Israel - I have never liked this song and still don't. I also don't believe he is 16 and I am not alone in that

Estonia - A slight drop from 4 to 6 with the bookies, which will mainly be because the performance is not that grand. Is still realistically an outside chance, but I don't think the Estonian Nick Cave is Nick Cave enough to win.

United Kingdom - If the UK wins, which it wont, it would just give Boris another job because seriously, who else could be in charge of the most outragous event in the world being hosted in the UK. Maybe the UK could just send Boris to Eurovision... it is crazy, but he might win...

Armenia - ever so blatantly political and for that reason it will not win.

Lithuania - Cute performance. wont win but will succeed in remaining cute.

Serbia - Whoever voted for this song is clearly an idiot and the fact that this qualified for the final is proof that there is a lot of idiots in Europe.

Norway - has tightened from 7th to 6th in the odds, but I still think you should forget Norway

Sweden - The favourite. Cute performance and an understanable winner.

Cyprus - toilet break

Australia - Initally I was appologising to Europe for us sending Guy, however looking over the rest of this list... Europe, you deserve it...

Belgium - This has had a big plunge on it in the last 24 hours or so. it has tighened from 12th last week to 3rd. It is not that good...

Austria - I don't mind this song, but the bookmakers don't and never have. They currently have it 4th last but I am confident it will finish higher than that. 5th last maybe...

Greece - toilet break

Montenegro - I do not like ethnoballads, but they do seem to do well this will gt 12 points from Serbia if nothing else and should not finish in the 3rd last that the bookies predict.

Germany - The bookies rate this dead last and I don't think they are far from wrong. I am still sad that Andreas Kümmert declined to represent Germany. maybe he is under no illusions and accepted that Eurovision is not a talent show so thought it was better to send someone without any...

Poland - The bookies rate this being about the end of the bad patch. they have this song 2nd last and though it is not terrible, things should theoretically get better from here...

Latvia - Theoretically this is an improvement from the last 3 songs. It is interesting and will probably wake you up. The bookies have had this jump into the top ten, I haven't.

Romania - I would really like this to come up and win, however it is surrounded by so much crap that it is beginning to stink of it which is a shame. The bookies have never rated it and have it in the bottom ten, however this song could show how much diaspora populations (which is what the song is essentially about) can impact the result.

Spain - What a pain. One of only 5 songs to be sung in the entrants native language. This song has also now cracked the top ten with the bookies (for how long I don't know). Possibly generous but it is a stand out in the bad (ballad) patch.

Hungary - Another song I surpisingly don't mind, but I think we will find that the bookies are closer to end result than my opinion is. This is expected to be in the bottom 10.

Georgia - a suprising qualifier which the bookies rate a lot higher than I do. they don't have it in the bottom 5 and I do...

Azerbaijan - This has just dropped out of the top ten and I don't think it is really a challenger. Azerbaijan will buy some votes and this will do ok, but thats about it.

Russia - Talking about buying votes... This song has managed to get to second with the bookies, up from sixth last week. I think the politics will count against Russia and I would not be surprised if this finishes 7th or 8th, however if they are paying top dollar for votes, which the bookies are implying, this could well come second...

Albania - toilet break only because if you endured the last 10 songs, you are really going to need it.

Italy - a really plausible winner and a great song to finish on. The sub 3 minute version works and so long as they don't have the audio problems they had in this rehearsal (which Italy has had a history of being plagued with on the night) we could be going to italy next year for only the third time.
