France has won 5 Eurovisions, their last being in 1977. 5 years after that win France withdrew from the 1982 event. A manager at the French broadcaster claimed that the event had an absence of talent and the songs were mediocre. In that vein France has sent the following to Eurovision 2014
Artist: TWIN TWIN
Song: Moustache
The artists insist this is not intended as a novelty act, the song is actually a 'critique of our culture of hyper-consumption', which is why they are performing it at the worlds biggest music contest in a spectacle that cost millions to produce. No consumption intended obviously.
Lets face it, it is a novelty act and there are better novelty acts this year. The more novelty acts in, the less chance a novelty act has to win. Aw well this year is novel enough with Aussie Jessica Mauboy performing as the interval act in one of the semis.
This song is an annoyingly catchy version of “Ordinary Angels”, but Europe wouldn't know that song. It is a similar theme.
Novelty with a message is less successful than just plain novelty, just ask Rambo Amadeus from Montenegro. He didn't even qualify for the final in 2012. France doesn't have to worry about that though.
