Mar. 22nd, 2009 11:19 amBelgium
winner: 1986
expecfed place: will not qualify
HIghlights:
mmm I'm Struggling here, I will get back to you on it.
Lowlights:
it is an Elvis impersonator who thinks he has talent. nuff said.
Belgium - Patrick Ouchène 'Copycat' (official video release)
Belgium has a habit of sendig songs to Eurovision that are either good (not brilliant, but good) or complete and utter crap. this year is the later. this no 'Je t'adore' or 'O Julissi' (which is about as good as Belgium gets), it is more like 'Twist of Love' which Denmark sent to Eurovision in 2006, very retro, very kitschy and very crap.
Pierre Bouteiller, who was head of entertainment for the TV network TF1 that broadcast Eurovision for Belgium's neighbour France said in 1981 "The absence of talent and the mediocrity of the songs were where annoyance set in. Eurovision is a monument to drivel".Nothing appears to have improved in almost 30 years.
Impersonators impersonate. yes it takes skill to do that, but if you impersonate a musician, it doesnt mean you are musically tallented. DQ (again from Denmark) went to Eurovision in 2007. impersonating female singers is one thing but thinking you are won didnt even qualify Denmark for the final. I think the impersonation of Elvis will have a similar fate.
Ghost of Eurovision past: Fud Leclerc 'Mon Amour Pour Toi' (1960). I think this guy is Mr Beans dad. check out the facial expressions.
