passionpopI just ranted in loic 's lj here, and I am am still annoyed, so I thought I would put it in a post (sorry for making you read this twice Ian)
It is about this or more precisely this:
"We apologise especially for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country."
the stolen generations are not limited to aboriginal and torres straight islanders. White people of lower socio-economic families were also forcefully taken from their families, siblings were separated and mothers told that they would get their kids back when they were 'better off'. personally I know more people from the 'white stolen generation' than the aboriginal one (ok two personally and I know another in passing who is the sister of one of the two that I personally know). are the white families going to get an apology? are they going to get government handouts? no.
I am fully in support of the apology to the stolen generations, however they should all be included. the statement as it is was long overdue and I thank kevin07 and the rest of the party for this starting gesture.
