Eurovision review: Portugal
Mar. 7th, 2011 12:55 pmPortugal have never won at Eurovision, they have never even looked like winning and they are currently the country that have competed the longest without a win.
After a small amount of controversy, Portugal selected this years song which is not destined for greatness and sadly will mean Portugal will have to wait at least another year for a Eurovision win.
Homens da Luta go back to another time in Portugal, the Portuguese revolution. The revolution and Eurovision were tied together back then as the song "E depois do adeus", when played on the 1974 Eurovision was the first signal to start the revolution. The song came last in Eurovision that year, not a good sign for 'Luta e Alégria'
Homens da Luta did have another song which qualified for the semis in Portugal, but was disqualified after finding it had been released prior to the EBU deadline. My wish is that this song too could be disqualified... or atleast if the big chick could wear a bra.
Google translate advises that on of the lines is 'There are those who sell you the very air' this is the second best part of the song (the best being the end). it is a little Greenjolly for me... actually green jolly were more interesting. Homens da Luta are awful... and they make the Village People look straight. send it back to 1974 - last place.
