kuala lumpur
Nov. 27th, 2012 08:12 pmfirst stop in KL over and did every think that was worth doing, including Petronas tower... actually that was about the only thing worth doing
if you don't like bali, you will hate KL. the smell is the same, KL just has public transport. it looks like once upon a time someone actually planned and designed a good pt system, just no one took care of it
and thats the interesting thing about bali v KL. Bali doesn't have the investment in infrastructure, but people in bali are proud and they will clean any rubbish from around their shops or whatever. everywhere else, people expect that it is someone elses job to keep stuff clean.
KL's PT is very similar to singapore's, just more grungy looking. they have the same stalls that you see in bali, but they also have some amazing moderns shopping centres. itwould be interesting to see what they look like in a decade.
There is two things about KL that makes perth look bad though. one is the high speed train link from the airport into town. the other (whic Bali) also has) is free wifi at the airport. te free wifi at the airport is important because alot of people use this as a transit lounge between flights. when we got to the airport at 5.30am, it looks as though a number of people had slept on seats at lcct between scare asia flights. this would be because it isnt worth the $25au (return) to go into town for two hours. I hope the new LCCT (low cost carrier terminal) at KLIA (KL international airport) is better equipped to entertain people in that wait because starbucks will wear thin
all in all, KL is nothing more than a day trip. book petronas tickets in advance (we were very lucky to get in on a cancellation) but ensure you book them direct through petronas else they wont accept the booking even if you paid for it.
