Wild Youth got a ticket to Eurovision thanks to the Irish public and the Irish jury preferring this to anything else. The were second with the International Jury who were also part of deciding who Ireland should send to Eurovision but you cannot read much into International Juries as they may have an ulterior motive of ensuring their nations song wins Eurovision. The motivation is rarely getting something good to Eurovision because we cannot have nice things
We are one sounds like a rip off of U2 when they were good. The alternative to this was not much better. The song that came close second to We Are One was Connolly's "Midnight Summer Night", which sounds like a blatant Coldplay rip off. These were apparently the best two songs Ireland could find. It is like they are not even trying any more. they have won enough Eurovision's and now they are only there out of obligation. If it was not for people being deceased, My Lovely Horse would be a better choice.
Eurovision's of old lacked originality as were are particular styles were family and jury friendly and most singers stuck in that safe zone. In 1973 Ireland stayed fairly safe for its time and very unoriginal and it was a song so bad that even the singer, Maxi, didn't like it.
