Eurovision 2014: the wash
May. 12th, 2014 11:59 amI am still in shock however that the country crap came second. Dear Europe, please explain
Sweden were third with a late favourite
Armenia were the favourite for most of the lead up until the last week and was overall 3rd with the televote finished 4th. his vocal was not the best and I always said that would be his downfall. i
Hungary were my sleeper act throughout the event and the dance incorporated with the song was one of the best I think I have seen. they were rewarded with 5th overall bolstered by the jury vote.
Two of my four favourites this year were in the top five
Romania were Awesome, though Paula did miss part of her big note which left Romania in 12th, 9th on the televote alone thoughPollaplonk from Iceland, which were the most fun song this year finished 15th. the televote had this at 12th
then there was the less good
I am chuffed with Norway finishing 8th. this was a gorgeous song and considering he is not a professional singer, he did awesome and the jury agreed
If it was not for politics, Russia might have finished higher than 7th, though the song was not great, the fans liked it. it did better in the televote than the Jury vote
Poland's tits made it to 14th. it pays to know your audience and this was never going to make top ten aiming at straight guys who seem to run the jury. this was 5th with the total international televote
The Ukraine almost gave us minge, but reached 6th due to politics and a manster wheel and a good televote
and Italy one upped Ukraine and did give us minge. Thanks Italy *barf*. the seafood platter gets you 21st overall
France got 2 points more than they deserved (one from Finland and one from Sweden) finishing last the juries thought this deserved more points, the televote gave it 1 point
Spain did better than I expected. It was performed well and finished 10th. the hair was the big thing. we got it, but I didn't hear from anyone who actually liked it
The best song to not qualify for the final was easily Estonia who finished 12th in the first semi on 36 points. tenth got 40.
If Estonia qualified then San Marino would not have got their first grand final performance in Eurovision though San Marino finished 24th
back to the final though, it is interesting to note that no Former Soviet countries were amongst the 13 countries to give Austria 12 points. Georgia and Lithuania both gave 10, and Georgia's vote did nohave a Jury, it was all televote (the only country to do so).
First and second were the same with the overall juries. also first for each semi was te same with the televote and the jury. the country by country break down has yet to be released, which is always more interesting, but at least there was a consensus.
I still think the semi voting system needs to be changed so that the jury and the televote integrates better. Portugal would have got through on the televote in the first semi, they just missed out. I also dont think the big 5 and the host country should vote in the semis. if they vote everyone in europe should vote, otherwise it is none of their business and they can keep their noses out
but discussing the voting process takes away from what is a wonderful win with a wonderful song.
This is Austria's second win in something like 47 attempts. so 48 years after we last went to Vienna, we are returning next year for another instalment of Eurovision. Congrats Conchita and Congrats Austria
