Hang on, didn't the author, in an attempt to finish the ever-expanding trillogy, destroy the entire sub-set of possible universes that include the planet earth in his stories? Then go and die himself, to make sure that there were no more books in the series?
Then again, his premise in the books that whenever the meaning of the universe is understood, it immediately becomes a more complex place kinda explains that side of things, like a self defence mechanism to preserve a continuing quest for meaning. With the flipside of that theory, if there is a quest for meaning, that meaning has to be theoretically obtainable, so theoretically it should be possible to bring back Earth - it'll just have to get more complex and bissare each time.
I'm not sure if that bodes well for the next book or not - I wonder how true he'll be to the original?
