passionpop: (completely)

Pseudo Echo are a great live band to watch, and at $35 a pop it warranted a trip to the feral, dirty, northern suburbs of Perth.

The Northshore Tavern is not a great venue. It is embedded into the side of Whitfords shopping centre, which has the worst car park in Perth and the polish concrete floor in front of the stage has deep gouges in it that could cause even a sober person severe injury, but I digress.

Pseudo Echo were legends of the 80s in Australia, and despite the fact that Brian Canham is the only remaining original member and is now surrounded by young men who are certainly are not grandfathers like he is, and despite the younger mens' attempts at looking like pouty, somewhat emotionally removed new wave gods being somewhat comical at times, Brian's smile warms through and illuminates the journey to the next song, and what a journey.

From the story of writing 'Living in a Dream' while working as a cabinet maker in his teens, to performing 'Listening' on Countdown, Pseudo Echo owned the Audience, and what an audience. There was Drunk dad dancing, the couple who looked like they had found heir left over stash from the 80s and taken it... all... and the woman who knew the words to every song from the start of the interval until the end of the night. I think she was still singing in the car-park.

The venue was filled with women who thought they were yummy mummies. All were clad in denim and all were drinking wine. Wine has a lot of sugar in it and this became evident when the sugar appeared to take its affect on the patrons. The impact of the sugar occurred around the same time Pseudo Echo commenced their cover of 'Send Me an Angel' (Real Life).

Everyone appeared to enjoy the night, from the man with the mega mullet to the short woman twerking towards the stage. And they should enjoy it. Pseudo Echo were more than Northshore deserved.
