Song: Our Choice
The son of the snowman from Frozen is going to Eurovision despite coming second in the national final in both the Jury and the public televote. Fortunately for Ari there was a Superfinal between the first and second place in the final and he beat the winner in the final to be Iceland’s Eurovision representative. Dagur Sigurðsson’s "Í stormi" was probably the better song.
It is rare in Eurovision to see a song that only has one writer credited, but “Our Choice” is one such song. Maybe only Þórunn Erna Clausen was willing to admit to being involved in the composition of this mind numbingly boring trash. Þórunn Erna Clausen had other writers willing to admit they contributed to her other song in Söngvakeppnin 2018, "Aldrei gefast upp” sung by by Fókus. It is not unexpected that Clausen had multiple compositions in Söngvakeppnin 2018 seeing she has also had compositions in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017. This is her first time to Eurovision through. Perseverance pays off… but your perseverance does not benefit the rest of us.
There is little chance that this song by a contestant from The Voice Iceland (2015) will challenge the favourites. It probably won’t even make the final but if it does it will be an opportune moment for a toilet break.
A similar looking fellow was sent to Eurovision by Iceland in 1989. Maybe Ari can borrow those awesome pants.
