The Worst Australian.
Aug. 6th, 2012 07:43 pmOK, I am a little annoyed at the toilet paper that calls itself a newspaper in this state.
it is bad enough that it over priced and filled with copy-paste stories from other sources, but when they do write something, how can they be so epically wrong.
The West prides and promotes itself for, amongst other things, its AFL credentials. WA being an AFL state it is an easy way to get people to buy the rubbish when they aren't doing new car competitions. with that in mind, you would think they would get their facts right, particularly when it comes to the local AFL teams
WRONG!
First there is this story
The Western Derby is the name given to the game between the two local Western Australian teams, the west coast eagles and my beloved Fremantle Dockers. Fremantle won the game on the weekend by 65 points and the west claims this is freos biggest ever winning margin.
A quick google of the following 'Fremantle's biggest winning margin in a derby' and you get to wikipedia telling you that freos biggest winning margin is 75 and that was round 18 2010
One error is an oversight, two though is unforgivable.
In another article on the same day it was said that 'West Coast were the first top-eight side Fremantle had beaten this season'
( another screen cap though 13 hours after publication, i doubt they would edit it )Looking at the current top 8, we did beat Geelong, however that was in round one when there was no top 8. some say the default of alphabetical order should be in place, others the previous years final standings, however we will allow that beating the reining premiers on the first game of the new season may not be a feat worthy of being called a win over a top 8 side, however in round 4, when we beat St Kilda they were in the top 8. Sure they are not now but either we beat a top 8 side in round 4 or we have beaten a current top 8 team.
If you deny either definition of defeating a top 8 team, you make the other valid, so freo have beaten a top 8 team and west coast now make two. West coke have only beaten two (current top 8 teams) themselves, Hawthorn and North Melbourne. They will face Geelong for the first time this season on Friday night. I hope they lose.
I am a one eyed Freo supporter, and that I will never deny, but having a one-eyed media is more offensive. both the west australian and channel 7 Perth will make more favourable comments about west coast. it is geography that makes them biased, i think it is more ownership. yes Perth is an argument to ensure cross media ownership is kept in check.
If I had one wish, and one wish only, it would be that newscorp expanded into publishing a daily paper in Perth, even something like MX... anything to make the west hire sub-editors to keep their tripe in check.
