today I went to Freo hospital to nuke my thyroid and... well it is quite a story

firstly Fremantle hospital, a place that appears stuck in a 1970s hospital drama... yes, it is the set of 'the young doctors' (I really hope i hurt people with that flashback, it was the only thing worse than 'A Country Practice' that I could think of). the only thing in the waiting area that had been updated in the last 20 years was the addition of an illuminated 'Exit' sign

then I saw my doctor for the day and it appeared that he was caught in the same time warp as the rest of the hospital, well it was either that or he had been to advanced hair (yeah, yeah) a year or so ago and was now too scared to cut his hair in case he loses it again. his long (un-naturally) dark blonde hair fell over his unironed coat.... he was no dr House and certainly no Dr Chase.

I then sat their giggling over the furnishings and the ward. i told him i didn't think anything had changed singe the 1960's (but it appears it was reno'd in the 1980s... you couldn't tell) and the doctor told me that the curtains were replaced a couple years ago after they fell appart and the vinyl chairs had to be recovered to light blue from their original ORANGE after they too fell apart.

other amusing things is i am not allowed to spend too much time sitting too close to people over the next 3 days because I have had a radio active capsule and I cannot go to the international airport for the next month because I will set off the metal detectors... this had me in fits of giggles... I so want to go to the airport now!

anyway the doctor left and I looked around the room and I saw the C1989 telephone on the doctors desk and then I leaned over a bit further and I saw... what must have been... an intercom... like... you know, the ones from 'Get Smart'... seriously. I was almost crying at this point and then i heard the trolley approach

but it was so weird, they brought out my meds on a trolley in a small iron flask. the nurse who gave them to me, who was wearing rubber gloves wouldn't/couldn't touch it and poured it into a cup. the doctor had told me before he left that if I threw up the meds, he would not be allowed to touch it and I laughed and was like 'the men in the white suits will have to be called in'.

then i took he capsule and i was done. half a day off work for what like took 10 minutes. all of which (almost $400 worth) medicare covers. yay for medicare!

and that was my afternoon... now I am off to save the world!
