Eurovision Australia 2019
Jan. 20th, 2019 10:12 amThree weeks from today we will know what song Australia will be sending to Eurovision. I would love to be on the Gold Coast for the event, however a long term ear infection means I cannot make the 4.5 hour flight across the country :( I will be there in spirits though. Also with Australian Mobile networks as good as they are, people in the arena probably wont be able to vote due to network congestion
Ten acts have been named for the event and all but three of them have announced their songs (as of now). Unfortunately my two favourite performers on the list are two of the acts that have not released their song, Kate Miller-Heidke (who will come up with something interesting, I am sure) and Ella Hooper (of Killing Heidi fame).
In addition to actual musical talents we have two former contestants from The Voice, One from Australian Idol and one from Australia's Got 'Talent', We also have a 'wildcard' artist in the 16 year old Leea Nanos, festival fancies Electric Fields, Half of Bachelor Girl, Tania Doko and of course Sheppard, who will probably win and I will hate their song forever.
We also have to endure Joel Creasey in the telecast. SBS still don't understand that no one thinks he is funny except him. Myf Warhurst will giggle along with him as he spits on any factual information on the acts. While Myf is there for her music knowledge and respect but she is constantly smothered by Creasey who is a shit head (and that's a genuine diagnosis).
Back to the music, official odds don't appear to be available but Sheppard are probably favourites going into the event with Kate Miller-Heidke second. Australian Eurovision fans have demanded Kate Miller-Heidke represent us at Eurovision for years, and the chorus got louder after Isaiah last year (who is not a bad singer for an X-Factor winner, but the song was wrong for him)
But out of 700 songs submitted online we have one new artist*, four try-hards and four acts that have genuinely worked to get record contract (Ella Hooper of course won JJJ Unearthed with Killing Heidi, but they had to work for mainstream success from that).
We are yet to receive clarification on how the voting will be rigged... sorry how it will work... But after all this we will at least have someone to send to Eurovision.
More details on the songs soon.
*artistry remains to be seen
