Full voting results are still trickling in for the semis and the public televote and they should be out tomorrow, but we already know the winner and many are rather disappointed with the result. This could be the worst winner since Jamala, though if I decide that this in fact worse than Jamala that would make it the worst winner ever...

This is what won

Israel finished with 12 points from the televotes of 8 countries, as well as the Jury 12 points from 5. France and San Marino gave both their Jury and Televote 12s to this stinker.

this Novelty song is not only visually and aurally insulting, but lyrically. Netta claims her song is anti-bullying and all about the #metoo movement, however if this is about empowering women, please explain the line "The barbie's got something to say". To me that sounds like body bullying slimmer women. If this is anti-bullying it should be anti ALL bullying. If this is empowering to wormen and asking for the respect that #metoo demanded, then ALL women are covered by that, not just fatties. as a fatty I expect all women to be allowed to stand up and not be disrespected and this song was disrespectful to everyone. Do not even get me started on the chorus line "You stupid Boy".

Unfortunately this song won so we are going to Israel next year which seems like a lovely safe place to visit atm.

Israel won overall as well as winning the Televote, but it did not win the Jury vote. The Jury placed it in third and gave first place to the much more Aurally pleasing Austria

It was hugely surprising that Austria did so well and it completely came out of nowhere. Austria finished fourth in their semi (the same Semi Israel and other pre-show Favouite Cyprus were in) but finished 3rd in the final after the televotes were added.

With the Top 3 coming from the first semi, the second semi has been shown to be the weaker one. The winner of the second semi was Norway who finished 15th overall in the final. When they cut to him in the greenroom he looked like he was going to cry. This was far from his success in 2009

Norway's song was always a bit crap and it was always going to rely on a great performance. Even though it finished 15th it was not as bad for other second semi artists. The highest placed from the Second Semi was Sweden who finished Second in the second semi but 7th in the grand final with a very clean performance

The results of Eurovision are always controversial, and the controversial winner (and probably voting) was not the only controversies. The question will remain how a stage invader managed to interupt the United Kingdom's SuRie. To her credit she continued her performance and rocked harder than that song deserved. That was girl power. That was empowering. That was real and not the bullshit from Israel

The bigger interruption for UK viewers was the twat that commentates for the BBC. SuRie is an amazing woman and continued on pure adrenaline, and if Graham Norton could shut the fuck up and not interrupt a professional then the BBC coverage would be vastly improved. even the imbeciles that commentate for SBS in Australia managed to wait for the song to end before saying "some absolute cockhead" invaded the stage.

Of course there are other winners at Eurovision. There are also the Marcel Bezençon awards, of which there are three.
The Composer award went to Bulgaria for Bones. Interesting thing about this song is that it's composers also composed the Austrian entry.

The Artistic award went to the Cypriot entry, which of course finished second overall. It is probably good that this didn't win because it appears Cyprus does not have an enclosed venue big enough to host Eurovision in anyway.

The Press award went to France, who despite being a favourite leading in to the event only managed to reach 13th.

By the end of the end of the event this was probably my favourite as a song.As a performance Moldova (who finished 10th)  were the most impressive, especially when you see how well choreographed the parts of the performance that you could not see were...

the Moldovan song was annoying but annoying is big in Eurovision. Despite the Czech Republic's Mikolas Josef coming across as an annoying, he probably had the best overall performance. The song was fun, the performance was on point and he managed to the backflip that he was avoiding after a fall in attempting it in the first rehearsal caused a back injury for Mikolas.

Czechia (Czech Republic) finished 6th in this years Eurovision which was their best finish ever with not only their first ever top 10, but their first top 20 finish, but then this is the second time they have made the final from 7 attempts. On the other hand we have Australia...

In three previous Eurovision's Australia has always managed to finish top ten. That run ended with Jessica finishing 20th. Despite having a popular 'Anthem' going into Eurovision, Jessica missed a number of notes early in her performance in the grand final and then started to over-sing to compensate. the result was messy. Missing notes does not mean you won't win, and there are better ways to recover. Ireland also missed a heap of notes and finished 16th, not that anyone in China saw the performance in the final or even the semi.

There will be a lot more analysis over the next few says of the voting and the contest before we start preparing for Israel in 2019. The next most important Eurovision event though is the result of the Barbara Dex award for worst dressed, which I think Israel will win easily. For now though I think this will be my final online rant about Israel for this year.
