respect your elders, part two
Dec. 23rd, 2012 02:33 pmyesterday I posted a pic and a rant that I also posted on FB
My breeder friends were not happy with the idea that seniors should get priority parking before them.
not all people can get an acrod sticker. incontinence is not a disability but people who suffer it shouldn't suffer the humiliation of soiling themselves on the way to the shopsBronwyn Bishop may have been a liberal and I hate most of her views, but as minister for Aged care affairs and shadow minister for seniors, she looked at all aspects of seniors needs. one thing I saw on tv was her trying to get a toilet map rolled out for seniors who were traveling so that when they went into a new town, they could easily find facilities.
it was a small idea, a simple one, but one that was really logical.
But older people often suffer discomfort or exhaustion from walking long distances, again not really ACROD material
also getting an ACROD sticker is the humiliation of saying you cant do stuff, now seniors seats and seniors parking is not saying you cant or you have to take these spots, it is an offer. RESPECT comes from the offer.
I have suffered the humiliation of people offering me a seat on the train because they thought I was up the duff. instead of embarrassing them and telling them I am not pregnant, i graciously decline the offer. why? because i wholeheartedly appreciate that they WOULD give their seat to someone who needs it more. I HATE people who keep their kids on a seat when adults are standing... that it the least respectful thing a parent can teach their child. all children should be taught respect by their parents. I was.
but we are a generation of people who expect everything and want it now. I do blame the howard years and the breeder bonus for that. you don't need a plasma TV now. THATS NOT EVEN WHAT THE BABY BONUS WAS FOR!!! it was designed to get older working couples (DINKs) to have a kid, maybe tow... not this useless constant breeding we see in the lesser suburbs.
but do you think you will always get everything?
think about this: when you are 65, there will not be a pension. if you didn't get Private health before you were 30 you will be stuffed and if you dont own your home you will be truly fvcked.
what the government giveth, it has also taketh away from you later.
this is why everyone should be fighting for seniors care, because eventually it will affect you and you will have no one fighting in your corner to save this stuff
Seniors are not that much of a burden on health as most of them have private healthcare (around here almost all the seniors are with GMF, look them up for your parents and grandparents, they are awesome for seniors).
many are not just looking after themselves but keeping our economy moving. without the gray-nomads many small towns would have vanished decades ago. they put money into these smaller communities just by using their free time.
many small businesses offer seniors discounts. why? because the times seniors are likely to come in and use the services or purchase the products are times when the stores are less busy. encouraging seniors keeps the business running.
Seniors also move the economy by sitting at home. daytime TV is filled with advertising aimed at seniors. that revenue from the advertising then goes to making tv shows for your kids.
but thats ok, If you still think seniors are a burden, then we can organise to have you euthanized at 60.
oh you want to live beyond 60? who is going to pay for that? your kids? hahahhahahha
it is a misnomer to believe that we need more babies. exponential population growth is unsustainable in the long term, but thats right, you are just thinking 'me, me, me and now, now now'
Children are a huge strain on our health system with their immunizations and their dental care and their accidents and their allergies. money is being taken from your parents to pump into your kids.
This was once the lucky country, unfortunately the luck runs dry at 60.
