 anyways

last night I was stuffing around on teh intarwebs as you do, when my connection dropped.

I waited then I logged into the modem and tried to get it to reconnect. it wouldnt

I walked over to the modem and turned it off and sat infront of the fire. mmm warm fire. then i turned it back on and went back to my pc (you know the one i replaced the power supply on 10 days ago)

no intarwebs

I looked at my modem. two lights. one owas a static power light and one was a flashing sync light. I thought to myself, thats not good

the wireless didnt reconnect all night. the sync light kept flashing.

today I bought a new modem.  this onw works and i have intarwebs

I have decided that teh intarwebs hates me and wants me off it, but i dont care.

with all the storminess and such last night, perhaps power surge shorted out the modem? That's happened to me before--power can travel down the phonelines too. (In my case the telegraph pole over the road was struck by lightning and *everything* went down, though.)

Yeah, you can get enough voltage difference to break the telephone connection bit of the ADSL router.
The voltage gets too high and it makes the magic smoke come out.
I've lost a laptop's built in modem that way.

all the lightening had stopped before the issue started. the only thing was dad got up and was walking around. my intarwebs has a habit of disconnecting when he walks around it
