Winner: Rasmussen
Song: Higher Ground

Rasmussen is a wilding singing a song best suited to Game of Thrones. He could be Tormund. Could be lead the Free Folk? As intense as he looks in the promo pictures, Rasmussen’s voice does not sound like it would inspire people into battle.

This song was written by Niclas Arn and Karl Eurén, both of whom have tried to get to Eurovision as witers previously though Dansk Melodi Grand Prix and Sweden’s Melodifestivalen. This is the first foray to Eurovision for both of them with a song inspired by Viking age chieftain Magnus Erlendsson, who was killed by his cousin’s cook, by the cousin’s order, ending the shared Earldom of Orkney. Legend says Elrendsson prayed for his killers souls when as he waited for the death blow. A pious and gentle man, Elrendsson is still dead.

Rasmussen is an actor and singer in Denmark and he is known for singing in a cover band called Hair Metal Heröes, who sound fun to watch. Germany sent Texas Lightning to Eurovision who were mainly a coverband and Iceland sent Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson who was best known in his country as a singer in a Led Zepplin coverband. Both of those were better entries than Rasmussen.

In 1965 Denmark sent a singer and actor, well actress, to Eurovision. Like Rasmussen, hope she was better at acting…
