Winner: DoReDos
Song: My Lucky Day
At Eurovision Moldova seem to be positioning themselves as the home of quirky, happy summer hits. This is another one along this line which will probably make the final but not hurt the favourites.
My Lucky Day was co-written by former Eurovision contestant Philip Kirkorov, who represented Russia in 1995, and John Ballard, who is best known for producing many of the songs on Ace of Base’s second album “The Bridge”. Both writers have contributed to the writing of other Eurovision songs with Kirkorov writing the Ukrainian entry from 2008 and co-writing the Belorussian entry the previous year; and Ballard worked on the Azerbaijani entry in 2013, the Russian entries of 2014 and 2016 and the Greek entry last year. With all that experience there is not a single winner and only one that even had a chance.
DoReDos has tried to make it to Eurovision twice previously. In 2015 they entered O melodie pentru Europa 2015 with "Maricica", which was co-written by Moldova’s 2012 representative Pasha Parfeni. Their other entry was in 2016 with "FunnyFolk”. My Lucky Day is a vast improvement on these songs but still not a winner.
Moldova has given Eurovision some of the most memorable Eurovision entries, including the epic sax guy, but their first Eurovision attempt with "Bunica Bate Toba" performed by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers of Moldova is just as epic as any sax guy.
