Appearances: 3
Wins: 0
Selection method: Internal Selection
Vote: Would imply Australia is democratic
Winner: Jessica Mauboy
Song: We Got Love
This is the second time we have seen Jessica at Eurovision, though the first in competition. She appears as an interval act in 2013 with the song “Sea of Flags”. Her vocals were a little off that night and they flicked over to the pre-recorded vocal part way through. Unfortunately pre-recorded vocals are not allowed in competition so this could be a car-crash.
Jessica Came to Australia’s attention through one of these ‘talent’ shows X-Idol’s Voice or something. She was apparently runner up but no one remembers who the winner of that show was that year and no one cares. They just remember her as the little girl that Auditioned in the bush before bailing out on singing the national anthem at Flemington for the Melbourne Cup because she wore the wrong shoes.
The song is definitely a Eurovision song, but then that is not a good thing. The writers wrote the last two entries Australian, neither of which was that great. Australia has so many better song writers and better artists but only Sony can pay the Eurovision entry fees for SBS so we are stuck with crap.
This year continues Australia’s tradition of sending ‘talent’ show contestants to Eurovision, but in a departure, Jessica is the first entrant that didn’t win. She is certainly no Dami
