passionpop: (my ass)

So last night I learned that the sound at Gold Coast Entertainment and Convention Centre may be poo, but it may also be some of the singers were really weak. G:Nat!ons sounded good in the venue but then everyone else had issues with low tones until Paulini. Either something got fixed or everyone Paulini onwards, could sing.

The other thing we learned is that the Jury fucked it, again. In 2020 Casey Donovan received 60 of the 296 public votes compared with eventual winners Montaigne's 53. The 54 points from the Jury gave Montaigne the win, which was reluctantly accepted because Montaigne had a great performance, despite Casey having the far superior vocal, a vocal that would have suited whatever she sung in 2021 and we would not have been subjected to the humiliation that was Technicolour, the eventual song Montaigne took to Eurovision a year later due to the pandemic

This year there was reported there would be a change in the Jury voting. Largely there wasn't and when the jury points to Voyager were announced, there was shock and jeering in the room. the phenomenally low points, 13 below Sheldon and 14 below Jaguar Jones, saw extremely popular Voyager finish second, despite blitzing the public vote.

There were also lots of comments from fans, particularly those with Vodafone (vodafail), that voting appeared to close 20 minutes early, before Voyager came to the stage. Telstra had no issue and there are no reports either way from Optus, but that could have got voyager the 3 points they needed to win, or at least redistributed points so Sheldon had a few less.

Nothing against Sheldon, he is a good singer, but his gimmick (or removing his mask) was already done at Eurovision by Norway's Tix, and no one was greatly impressed by that. There were just better songs. Maybe though SBS was looking for an anthem, after all the next program for SBS that BlinkTV (producers for Australia Decides) will produce will be the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. They obviously wanted a song that could be used interchangeably between Australia Decides, Mardi Gras, and Eurovision to cut production costs... though I don't mean to imply Sheldon is cheap.

If Australia Decides did a Eurovision (12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) voting system, the votes would have been as follows

    Jury Public
Voyager "Dreamer" 8 12
Sheldon Riley "Not the Same" 10 10
G-Nation "Bite Me" 0 8
Jaguar Jonze "Little Fires" 12 7
Andrew Lambrou "Electrify" 2 6
Charley "I Suck at Being Lonely" 6 5
Erica Padilla "To the Bottom" 1 4
Paulini "We Are One" 4 3
Jude York "I Won't Need to Dream" 5 2
Isaiah Firebrace and Evie Irie "When I'm with You" 7 1
Seann Miley Moore "My Body" 3 0

This would have seen Sheldon and Voyager on a tie and the two accepted ways to tie break is
1) who ever has he most 12s
2) who ever the public voted for

Either of these methods would have given it to Voyager and leaving Jaguar Jonze in third. it also would have provided clarity on the voting. The random amount of 335 points each for public and Jury made little sense.

But there is nothing that can be done to fix the results that SBS fucked, so here is our song for Eurovision...
