Semi Final 1
Artist Kasia Moś
Song: Flashlight
Odds: $81

Word of the day
mdłe – bland

‘Must be the music. Only music’. That was the name of the Polish talent show that Kasia graduated from. Her bio is blah, blah, blah about how she is talented and all these famous people she has apparently worked with but that is really the stock standard bio for Eurovision. It just makes the artist seem blander.

The writers of this song are almost as bland as he singer. Their bios are mainly filled with “look at who we have worked with. The only interesting writer is Pete Barringer who is one third of DWB (Drew Watts Barringer), who are like the new SAW but crapper… if that is possible. Pete and DWB also co-wrote this year’s entry for country formerly known as the Czech Republic. We are all looking forward to that one.

This song could potentially not be bland. It could be amazing, atmospheric and thunderous. Here’s hoping it will be because there is too much bland in pop.

Poland finished 2nd in their first Eurovision in 1994, which is still teir best result. Their second best was Ich Troje in 2003 who finished 7th. Hard to believe really….

Michał Szpak - Color of Your Life

Second place in X-factor is unlikely to result in a Eurovision win, even with a strong song, and Michał does not have a strong song. I hope his presence on the stage is bigger because this will not qualify. The bookies say yes, but computer says no.

This is like Balkan Ethno-pop without the random traditional Balkan instruments. It sounds like the stock-standard Eurovision track and the bookies think that gives it a chance and they are optimistic on qualification but this song freaking bores me. I vote this as the toilet break.

Poland could afford to host a Eurovision and though I would love to see them win one, they have to try a little harder. I am not sure Poland gets Eurovision. Maybe they still think they are in Intervision or something.

I wonder what the late Sir Terry Wogan would make of this song. I guess it depends on how late in the evening it is. You never wanted to be in the second half of the draw like Poland’s Barbara Dex winning act was in 2001

Monika Kuszyńska - In The Name Of Love

In a word, Inspiring. I cynically said a few years ago of Diana Gurtskaya of Georgia that she was ‘proof that the sympathy vote can take you all the way', but there was no voting in Poland, this was an internal selection. She may not be blind like Diana, but least they found a pretty paraplegic.

It is interesting that in the presentation clip you don’t see Monika is in a wheelchair until the end of the clip. I wonder if her performance in Eurovision will be similarly subtle. Either way, I doubt she will be moving around the stage much…

The tune is making me think there is something New Romantics about the writing. Parts of it remind me of a couple of the popular songs of the 1980s, maybe that’s why I don’t mind it. Even though the bookies do not rate this song but I think it is ok, better than some.

The best finish for Poland was in their first Eurovision. Maybe next year they can better that result.

This is all of the semi final 2 performers this year. SPOILER ALERT this has details of their performances as well as a link to their rehearsals. If you want to keep how dire the acts are a surprise, please stop reading now

There is always one Eurovision semi that is far better than the other. This is not the better semi.

full list of second semi finalists )

so in short, I doubt anything from this semi will win or even come close. either the song is dire or the performance it not good enough to get it votes.
Best performances: well... possibly slovenia
Auto non-qualifiers: either greece or poland wont qualify or both,

the highlight of this semi is clearly Jessica Mauboy

Poland has never won Eurovision and since the semi's came in they have only qualified once, and even that was just. This year will follow the usual trend

Artist: Donatan & Cleo
Song: My Słowianie - We Are Slavic

This clip is designed for straight guys who want to watch the song with the sound off. They even had to extend the clip beyond the end of the song to ensure they got enough cleavage shots. Maybe this is not meant to be a music clip but a mail order bride catalogue, though don't mail order brides usually come from Poland's neighbours, Russia and Ukraine. Maybe Poland is trying to start a new export industry, tits.

According to their bio, the clip has been viewed more than 40 million times since the song was released! This could explain why the bookies have this song in the top ten, as apparently you tube hits are used in their algorithms to calculate odds. That is about the only logical reason.

Regardless of the popularity of the clip, this is a sound that is available everywhere. The US regurgitates these sounds and regardless of their sales, it wont necessarily translate to Eurovision success. Remember that their live act will have to be more demure than this clip because Eurovision is a family show, not a making a family show.

Regions are often represented in Eurovision songs. Serbia did it with 'Ovo je Balkan' in 2010 and a year earlier Romania sung about the Balkan girls who apparently like to partly like nobody likes to party

Marcin Mrozinski - Legenda

You know how you get those songs that make you dizzy from them going around and around... well this is one of those. it appears to want to be on the sound-track of some fantasy film... Seriously, Lord of the Rings was so last decade, get with the program already

Remember, in the Eurovision Drinking game: High & loud obnoxious noises emitted from singer during their act = 2 fingers. thats what I give this act, two fingers, index and middle with y nals showing to the performers

Oh look it isnt that bad compared to everything else this year. I think it is like 'Fairytale' for adults, or at least thats what it is trying to be. This song does make one pose the question: are there any Straight male solo singers performing in this years Eurovision? hmmm

This year is Polands 15th Eurovision. no wins but they keep trying. In 1997, in their fourth Eurovision they sent Anna Maria Jopek with 'Ale Jestem', quite a pleasant song, but there were a number of interesting acts in 1997 (like Iceland), the year televoting was brought out in a number of countries in Europe for the event.
